Midlands performing family to return to National Ploughing Championship 2018
Midlands family, The Wrafters – husband Peter, wife Noreen, and their three children, Conor, Thomas, and Aimee - are set to return to perform yet again at the National Ploughing Championships in 2018.
The family, who hail from Kilbeggan in Westmeath, can already look back on a year that has presented them with one highlight after another. They’ve opened for Nathan Carter at the Moynalty Steam Threshing Festival, for The High Kings, for Johnny McEvoy, and for The Three Tenors.
As well as of that, they’ve been the special guests of Marian Shanley on her Dublin South FM radio show ‘The Power of Dreams’, and of Eurovision winner Charlie McGettigan on his Saturday morning show on Shannonside FM.
Come December, they’ll see out the year by opening the show for The Fureys in the Tullamore Court Hotel, and of course
before then, there’s the Ploughing.
“We were there last year, and had a fantastic time”, declared Peter, the dad of the family and the leader of the band. “And we’re delighted to be going back again this year. In fact, only a few weeks ago we ran into Anna May McHugh herself over in Moynalty. She was there to open the festival, and we were there opening for Nathan Carter. I even managed to
get a little dance from Anna May. She has an incredible sense of spirit and fun about her, you have to admire her.”
And speaking about their year so far, Peter agreed that there was already a lot to look back on. But he was also keen to point out that there was still more to come, too.
"Absolutely, we’ll be able to look back on 2018 with smiles on our faces for many a year. It’s been brilliant for us. But it’s not over yet. We’re looking forward to being back at the Ploughing again, and we have the honour of opening for The Fureys on December 30. But we have a few other bits and pieces in the works as well, ideas that we’ve been working on throughout the year. And hopefully we’ll be bringing at least a couple of those to fruition and into the public arena before the year is out, too.”
