The High Kings bring 'Decade Tour' to Offaly this weekend

The world-renowned Irish ballad group, The High Kings, are bringing their unique brand of folk to the County Arms Hotel in Birr this Saturday, May 26 at 7.30pm.

Formed in 2008, the High Kings, comprising of Finbarr Clancy, Brian Dunphy, Darren Holden and George Murphy, have carved out a niche left behind by the likes of The Clancy Brothers and The Dubliners.

Founding member, Darren Holden said that at the time, forming a group like this was a no-brainer. “We could sing well, play our instruments well and harmonise well,” he said.

“People were looking for guys with character, presence – not just cardboard cut-outs – so the respective experience we all had wasn't just helpful but essential."

The four members immediately knew that something special was taking place, "we knew within the space of a few songs that there was magic," and within months had clicked as a creative unit as well as friends.

Eight albums later and the group continues to thrive, touring around Ireland and the world. Their latest album, Decade, celebrating the best of their ten years together, has been critically acclaimed by critics and fans alike.

Released in November 2017, it was was received with rave reviews and record sales figures with the band again topping the Irish Album Charts and returning to the Billboard World Music Charts once again.

The DECADE World Tour promises a joyous trip down Memory Lane, to the music and song of yesteryear, this time performed in a contemporary style and arrangement which still remains true to the original.

Tickets for the show at the County Arms Hotel in Birr on Saturday, May 26, are priced at €27.50 and are available on www.ticketmaster.com or at the hotel reception on (057) 912 0791.
