In the second of this year’s Foundation happenings, a project called Pop-Up Youth led by artist Sarah McDowell is ongoing in Tullamore Community Arts Centre. Sarah welcomes local kids and teenagers to join the free workshops, which explores their vision of Tullamore town.
Workshops are ongoing taking place on weekends Saturday and Sunday, November 26 and 27 and Saturday and Sunday, December 3 and 4.
Pop-Up Youth involves Sarah working in an artist-led collaboration with local young people using various processes as to realise their version of Tullamore; the town will be built in model form creating buildings and streets. Exploring themes of empowerment, identity and social geography, the model town will be immersive with wider than usual streets so that viewers can walk around on the upcoming open day, Saturday December 10.
Sarah is a visual artist who worked for several years as an archaeologist and illustrator in Ireland, Albania and in Tunisia. Utilising her experiences as a sculptor, she then worked as an architectural technician in Dublin, designing for buildings around the city.
