Offaly’s commemoration of the 1916 Easter Rising is coming to an end. The Centenary of the Rising was celebrated throughout the county in music, film, lectures, theatre, historic exhibitions, formal ceremonies of remembrance, and other cultural and artistic events.
At the beginning of the year, Offaly County Council commissioned Aura Productions to film a number of events that would capture the spirit of the commemorations and the unique contributions of Offaly men and women in 1916.
Offaly County Council has announced that a screening of this film will take place in the Tullamore Omniplex at 7pm on Thursday, December 1. A reception will be held immediately afterwards in the Millennium Room, Bridge House Hotel.
The film seeks to capture the spirit of the commemoration and echoes the themes of ‘Remember, Reflect, Re-imagine’. One of our flagship projects, the film documentary Faithful Rising, which tells the story of Peadar Bracken and Eamonn Bulfin, two Offaly men who had a unique impact on the Rising, will also be screened on the evening.
Both DVDs, along with other publications commissioned and supported by the Council, will be available for purchase on the night. This will be the final event in the 1916 programme Clár Comórtas Céad Bliain. The Offaly 2016 Commemoration Committee would like to welcome all those who have supported the programme to attend this special evening of celebration.
Tickets for the event must be secured in advance. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org or contact Fiona Flaherty at 057 93 57402 or Veronica Francis at 057 93 46840. Tickets are limited and will be distributed on a first come basis.
