Rehearsals are now underway for Portia coughlan
Rehearsals for the latest TADS (Tullamore Amateur Dramatic Society ) production of Portia Coughlan, a play by Marina Carr, are underway in Tullamore.
Director, Fionnuala Corrigan explained “it feels very special to be doing a play here, written by an extraordinary creative, one of the foremost playwrights in the country at the moment, whose plays have been produced on the Abbey Stage frequently. The woman has a gift of language.
It feels doubly special to be doing a play that was situated in the Midlands, written by someone who grew up in the locality. While her plays are dark in many ways, she sees something mythical in the Midland counties, as the play is written out of a great love of the Midlands.
As a writer, she is fearless in looking at many aspects of life. She is not afraid to celebrate what is unusual”
The cast comprises some familiar faces, including Síle Reynolds, Ivan Hamany, Frank O’Brien, Laura Molloy, and John Lynch to name a few. With under three weeks to the live show taking to the stage, the actors and production team are working hard to ensure this Offaly Gothic drama does the writer and the story every justice.
The show takes place from Tuesday, 7th November through to Saturday, 11th November. For tickets TADS can be reached through their social media channels or by email to secretary@tullamoredrama.ie
