Division 2 Rudds of Birr Division 2 Camogie League Final

Kilcormac/Killoughey 1-18

Naomh Brid 3-5

Kilcormac/Killoughey served a notice of intent ahead of the summer championship defeating Naomh Brid with seven points to spare in the Division 2 league final last Saturday afternoon.

Although the scoreline does not reflect the game, KK and Naomh Brid played a very intense and exciting game which was played in sunny but cold conditions. Debbie Flynn got her side off to a winning start with the first point of game in the opening five minutes.

An exciting addition to the KK team was Emma Mulrooney who made her mark early on in the game scoring a phenomenal goal on the edge of the small square to the opposite side of the net. Naomh Brid eventually got to grips with the game when Aoife Walsh scored her sides first point of the game.

Some controversy followed the score when full forward Niamh Walsh caught a highball, turned and looked to have hand passed the ball to the net was overruled as a throw and disallowed.

KK played a fast flowing game with Jane Lowry and Debbie Flynn cutting through the Naomh Brid defence for Flynn second point of the game. In an almost copy of Niamh Walsh's disallowed score, the full forward again caught a highball turn on hand pass the ball to the net to raise the green flag.

This resulted in some positional switches where Lorraine Keena now picked up Niamh Walsh at full back. KK at times were slow to transfer possession from defence to the forward line, but when the ball was delivered quickly KK did damage. Emma Mulrooney added KK's third point to put two points between the teams.

Deadly accurate Aoife Walsh pointed from a placed ball while Shauna Flynn answered this score striking the ball with her back to the goal and over her shoulder. The score was followed up by two Debbie Flynn points which included a one-two passage of play with her sister Shauna. KK began to pull away as Eileen Bracken added another point. With no one to contend with, Debbie Flynn and Emma Mulrooney added two more points to make it 1-9 to 1-3 in favour of KK at the half time break.

Naomh Brid returned to the game with intent with Grace Teehan finding the net in the opening minute of the game. This score would be Naomh Brids score for a long time as the platform provided by the obduracy of a defensive unit in which Triona McDonald, Sinead Moore and Lorraine Keena were imperious.

Kilcormac Killoughey only grew with confidence as Debbie Flynn controlled the third section of the pitch. Flynn added two points one from play and one from a placed ball while Eileen Bracken pointed again for her side. Ellen Hayden also had an influence on the game as the corner forward raised the white flag and then was fouled moments later to set up Debbie Flynn for a free.

Naomh Brid struggled with the KK firepower that cleverly held possession in their forward line to keep their defence out of danger. Grace Teehan worked hard and although had number 11 on her back, the centre forward roamed freely to defend and attack when needed. Teehan added a point from play following a huge solo run through the KK defence and eventually found space to add Naomh Brid's fourth point of the game.

Naomh Brid put the KK defence under pressure and were eventually awarded a 21 yard free, Aoife Walsh's shot was saved and Walsh scored the resulting '45. Debbie Flynn responded with a wondrous score, gathering possession tight to the left on the 45 and embarking on a typically direct run before cutting inside and drilling over. The final three scores of the game came from the stick of Debbie Flynn who dominated from start to finish.
