All athletes put in great performances in their event with some bringing home provincial medals.
In the boys U13 80 metre sprints, Cillian Bourke put in a good performance by winning his heat to progress into the final. In the final Cillian just missed out on a medal, finishing fourth. This was good enough to quailfy for the National finals.
In the U10 Girls Pairs Long Jump, Anna McGreal and Lilly Grennan put in great performances with a combined jump of 6.67 metres to finish second and claim a silver medal and qualify for the national finals. Well done girls.
In the Inter County Relays, Lilly Grennan, Anna McGreal, Niamh Garvey and Grace McNally represented Offaly in the under U11 Girls. All four girls ran a great leg finishing second and winning a silver medal. Well done.

Leinster Senior and Master Track & Field & Junior Steeplechase
Over a very sunny morning Tullamore Harriers Juniors and young Seniors won six medals at the Leinster Senior Championships, which was hosted again in their home stadium, on Sunday, June 3. James Dunne’s break through over 800m was the standout performance with his run coming after a good block of training in the last two months. James led out the Senior 800m and brought the lead group of three through the first 300. Then James’ club mate Aaron Mangan took the lead. Aaron kept the pace strong right to the line and his time of 1.56:8 saw him bring home the silver medal. James was chasing not far behind and he got across the line in 1.59:6, a PB of two seconds. James also won the bronze in the Leinster Senior Championships. Earlier in the day Aaron had competed in the 1500m and being conservative early on meant that he
was chasing the silver medal which he won with ease in a time of 4.10. On the Women's side Nadine Donegan won bronze in the Leinster Senior 1500m after a battling performance which saw her having to sprint right to the line. After the 1500m races the steeplechases took place and again Tullamore put two medals on the board. Dearbhail Cuddy finished a creditable second in the Junior Steeplechase in her first run over the 3000m distance. Philip King was very shrewd in his race and after darting cautiously he reeled in his competitors before sprinting to victory in a time of 10.28. Again this was the young athletes first
time racing the 3000m distance for Steeplechase, which is always challenging. In other events on the day, Adrian Brennan medalled in his 3 events taking gold in the M55 Long Jump (3.84), silver in the Javelin (25:69) and bronze in the Shot Putt (8.77). Jim Dolan also claimed the trio with silver in the Weight for Distance (5.85), silver in the Shot Putt (9.08) and gold in the Hammer (24.14). Hilary Duncan took silver in the W45 Javelin (13:68). Mary Walsh took gold in the W65 200m (39.34). Ciaran McGovern took silver in the M65 3000m (13:56). Jim Langan took gold in the M75 1500m (6:57). Martina Conlon took silver in the W55 1500m (7:01). Norman Browne competed in the M40 200m finishing 4 th (30:77) and 5th in the 100m (14:46). Jay Donegan posted 16:41 to take 5th place in the Senior Men’s 5000m, 2 days after the 5k road race in Ballyskenach where he was 3rd finisher with a super time of 16:28. Johnny Feery took the gold in the M60 5000m
(18:50). Congratulations to all the medallists and well done to you all for your performances.
Annual Colin Dunne Track and Field Event
We had the Annual Colin Dunne Track and Field event on Friday 08 th June in the club stadium. In complete contrast to the downpour of last year's competition, the sun was high in the sky from start to finish. The smiles on the faces of the children depicted what a fantastic day was had by all. Teams of boys and girls from the Primary Schools in Offaly competed in sprints, throwing events, long jump and finished with the ever exciting relay races. We were honoured as always to have Colin's parents Tom and Bernie Dunne to present the prizes to the winning teams. With 45 boys’ teams and 39 girls’ teams, the competition was bound to be tight. Both Ballinamere NS and Killeigh NS finished with equal points in the boys’ events, so on countback (overall scores on each individual event was compared), Ballinamere were deemed winners, with 2nd place going to Killeigh Ns and 3rd to Clonbollogue. 1st girls team was Killeigh NS, 2nd Ballinamere NS, and 3rd Gaelscoil Escir Riada Tullamore. Congrats to all the children who took part and thank you to the teachers and coaches who travelled
to mark the Colin Dunne event. Thanks to Mick Gillespie our MC for the day, and to all who made for a great day in Tullamore Harriers.
Tony Harpur was running in his home county on Sunday 10 th June, posting a pb in the Wexford Marathon. Tony had the sweltering heat to contend with but was delighted with his time of 3:14:16. Well done Tony.
