On Tuesday last, Killina Presentation Secondary School were comprehensive winners over  St Killians DS in the FAI Leinster Post Primary Minor Girls B Cup final played in Leixlip.

Killina had qualified for the final with impressive wins over Woodlawn Academy, St Laurence’s College and Woodbrook College, and made light work of their final opponents to set up a national semi-final tilt.

St Killians started the game the brighter and went into an early lead after 5 minutes. Indeed it could have been 2-0 had it not been for excellent defending from Louise Molloy and Kaitlynn Spain.

Soon the tide was turning, and a brilliant save from Ciara Glackin in the Killina goal resulted in a long clearance
setting Becky Watkins through on goal to calmly slot past the keeper.

This seemed to settle the Killina girls and after much pressure Becky Watkins made it 2-1 with an excellent finish for the Offaly school.

A then dominant Killina made it 3-1 with a brilliant headed finish from team captain Ava Dolan and this was followed by a clever finish from winger Emma Dolan to make it 4-1.

With Emma Hand and Katelyn Murphy breaking up attacks in the middle of the field Killina were able to feed Amy Kelly up front who worked tirelessly throughout. Killina finished the half on a high with the excellent Becky Watkins adding two more.

At half time, Megan Daly, Marie Cantwell and Eivile Jankunaite came on for Killina and immediately settled into the game. Indeed Megan Daly scored with her first touch of the ball after only 2 minutes of the restart.

Rachel Walsh and Ciara Wyer were making excellent runs down the wings and eventually their hard work paid off when Megan Daly was fouled in the box. Centre back Ciara Heffernan stepped up to calmly slot the ball into the top corner.

Despite Killina's dominance the St. Killians team continued to pose a threat and could have scored had it not been for the excellent defending of Ciara Heffernan and her defence.

Fittingly it was team captain Ava Dolan who finished off the scoring with another brilliant finish from a corner, rounding out a 9-1 win for the Offaly school.

After the match Ava Dolan received the cup from FAI co ordinator Yvonne Nolan. Killina now qualify for the National semi-final against the Ulster champions on March 6. It is the first time the school has reached this stage.
