Tullamore Harriers Report (December 4)

A busy week for the club

Fine display by Track & Field athletes at Cushionstown A.C

It was a cold and frosty morning but that was not enough to stop a bus-load of athletes, coaches and parents travelling from Tullamore to Cushinstown, Co. Meath to take part in their annual indoor track and field open day. Following several months of hard training, the athletes were looking forward to the day out and were well rewarded for their efforts. The day started off with the 60 metres sprint. All athletes performed very well taking home 16 trophies/medals.

Results 60 metres sprints:
Ruby McNally (u8) - 3rd place, Grace McNally (u11) - 1st place, Cara Goode (u12) - 3rd place Eoin Corcoran (u12) – 3rd place, Cillian Bourke (u12) – 1 st place, Shauna Slattery (u14) – 1st place, Kate Cunningham (u15) – 3rd place, Katelyn Farrelly (u15) – 2nd place.

In the field events there were good performances in the long jump, high jump and shot putt.

In the shot putt Samuel Brickland threw a distance of 6.13m to finish third. Well done Samuel.

In the high jump there were wins for Cillian Bourke (1.25m), Diarmaid Finneran and Eoin Corcoran (1.31m PB).

In the long jump the was another good performance by Katelyn Farrelly (1 st 4.93m), Diarmaid Finneran (1 st 5.00m) and Eoin Corcoran.

The coaches would like to thank all the parents who travelled to the event and gave their time, assistance and support to the young athletes. It was a great performance by all athletes on the day. Well done to all.

Waterford Half Marathon

Well done to Darragh Rigney and Gary Whittle who had a fine race in the Waterford Half Marathon last Saturday, both posting the same time of 1.28.52 for the 13.1 miles.

Medieval Mile

David Murray ran a super time of 4.53 at the Medieval Mile race in Kilkenny last weekend finishing 7th overall in a very competitive field of 250 runners. The first two finishers were inseparable with James Ledingaham and Eoin Everard declared joint winners in 4.21.

International Running Challenge, Lanzarote

Now in its 28th year, the annual International Running Challenge at Club La Santa in Lanzarote has become a regular fixture in the Harriers calender with the club represented at the event for the past few years. The event comprises of four races over four days; a 10k road race, a 13k ridge run, a 5k beach run and a 21k road race. Pauline Curley took a star turn this year, finishing as the top lady overall in the competition for the second year in a row, while Nadine Donegan won her U20 age group in the 21k race and 5k beach race. Nita McLoughlin made up the three-person Harriers ladies team who took third place in the 21k. Conor Butler and Ethan Duncian took first and second places respectively in the U20 category for both the 5k and 21k. David Owens won his U20 age group in both the 10k and 13k races. Emily Grennan won her 20-24 age group in the 5k. As well as awards for the individual races, finishers medals are awarded to runners who complete all four races.

Access to Harriers Facilities

Please note that use of the club’s facilities, including the tarmac track, is restricted to members of the club. Walkers are not permitted on the track during training sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6.30pm-8pm.
