Gold For O’Connor in New York

Niamh O’Connor competed over 10000m and 5000m at the weekend in Lawrenceville, New York for Iona College at the MAAC Outdoor Championships. The top two spots of the women’s 10000m went to Iona, led by a 36:33.03 finish from Niamh O’Connor while her team mate Orlaith Moynihan (from Clonmel) was second in 37:09.23. The following day in the 5000m Niamh was back in the leading pack and only in the last lap did she drop out of the medals. She finished fourth in a time of 16.55. Congrats Niamh great running.

Good Performances at the South Leinster Schools Track and Field

A large number of Tullamore Harriers juvenile and junior athletes travelled down to Waterford in the last fortnight to compete in the South Leinster Schools Track and Field. All seem to have enjoyed these days of competition and many now progress on to the Leinster Schools which take place next week. Some of the great performances include Ava O’Connor winning the Junior 1500m; Danielle Donegan winning both the Senior Steeplechase and 3000m; Aaron Mangan winning the Senior 1500m; Dearbhail Cuddy winning silver and bronze in the Intermediate Steeplechase and 1500m respectively; and Lydia Buckley. Congrats to all who competed.

Bon Secours Great Limerick Run

Up to 13,000 participants ran in the Bon Secours Great Limerick Runs on Sunday, May 6. The high temperatures didn’t deter the Tullamore athletes who took part. All had great runs, with some PBs too, great achievements in the hot conditions. Tullamore Harriers results: Full marathon – Finian McDermott 3:36.28, Rob Maunsell 3:41.04, Rodge Larkin, 4:18.10; Half marathon – Gary Dillon 1:30.54, Gary Dwyer 1:39.44; 6 Mile – Paul Mitchell 33.08, Katherine O'Keefe 38.41, Jennifer Burke 49.34. Rob Maunsell ran his second marathon in as many weeks having comp!eted the London Marathon on April 22nd. Well done to all on some brilliant running.

Pat Finnerty 5k Road Race

Mullingar Harriers hosted a new 5k road race - the Pat Finnerty 5k on Wednesday 2 nd May. The new course was a point to point route with runners transported back from the finish by bus ensuring the full benefit of the downhill fast course. The winner was Peter Samba (Dunboyne AC) in 14:56.  Tullamore Harriers was led out with a super run by Mark Donegan who finished in 6th place in 16:47, followed by another great performance by Padraig Berry (8th) with 17:16. Well done to all
who represented the club. Other results: Marie Donegan 23:21, Fr Ciaran McGovern 24:01, Darren Hayden 24:36, Jim Langan 25:23.

BHAA 10k, Ballycoolin

There was a new event on the Business Houses Athletics Association (BHAA) calender on Wednesday, May 2 in Ballycoolin, near Blanchardstown. It was a 5km combined ladies and men's road race, promoted by Bristol-Myres Squibb and it took place on roads within their site. Tullamore Harriers’ Eddie Garry was 14th of over 260 finishers in a time of 17:34 and John Todd was 88th, 1st O/65, in a time of 20:46. Well done to both.

Tullamore Harriers 5k road race – Sunday, May 13

This is the next race in the Offaly Road Race Series. On a fast flat route, and closed roads, this race has it all. Note to all those who recently completed our can do this!! So keep that training going and see you on May 13.

Tullamore Harriers Quinlan Cup Half Marathon

Tullamore Harriers Quinlan Cup Half marathon will be held on Saturday 25th August. This year we anticipate closing the event much earlier so sign up now. Again this year we have the Relay Entry option so if you are not interested in the Half Marathon and would like to be part of this fantastic day....this is your opportunity. The half marathon is the Leinster Athletics Half Marathon Championship and the Offaly Half Championship race.  See FAQ regarding the event at and entry at

Access to Harriers Facilities

Please note that use of the club’s facilities, including the tarmac track, is restricted to members of the club. Walkers are not permitted on the track during training sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays 6.30pm-8pm.
