Two Edenderry Leaving Certificate students have won €6,000 each towards their 3rd level education thanks to a Croí Laighean Credit Union initiative.

Croí Laighean Credit Union, which has branches in Edenderry, Coill Dubh, Clane,, Leixlip, Carbury, Allenwood, Prosperous and Robertstown, announced the two winners of the 2018 Pat Jones Student Bursary Awards at a gala function on Friday, June 22, at the Westgrove Hotel.

On the night 16 student finalists and their families/friends attended to celebrate the achievements of the students and hear from previous Bursary winners about the positive impact winning the Bursary has had on their College lives. Kirsty Connell from St. Mary’s Secondary School and Sean Masterson from Oaklands Community College were announced as the overall winners, receiving €6,000 each towards their college education over three years.

Paul Kennedy, CEO of Croí Laighean Credit Union said, “our Bursary judging panel were blown away by the calibre of the students they met. Each of them have achieved so much in their secondary school life and showed and a passion and flair for various sports and hobbies. As with every year, choosing two winners was very difficult.”

“We are delighted for Kirsty and Sean who impressed the judges with their commitment to school, their hobbies and interests and their involvement in the community,” said Paul.

Croí Laighean Credit Union is very proud of the Pat Jones Student Bursary which has been in operation for 6 years and has contributed over €50,000 to students in the common bond.

Over the years, the Bursary has had a hugely positive impact on the students who win. For some, it has allowed them to go to college when otherwise it might have been difficult financially and for others, it offers them the opportunity to live on campus and contribute more fully to college life.
