Tullamore's Academy Chamber Choir has wonderful success in Germany

Tullamore’s Academy Chamber Choir is returning home elated elated having been awarded 3rd place in the Internationaler Chorwettbewerb – a prestigious choral competition held every two years in Miltenberg, Germany.

It is the first time the choir has spread its wings further afield and competed against some of the best choirs in the world.

The choir was greeted at Frankfurt Airport to waving tricolours and quickly transported to meet the Mayor of Obernburg, the Bavarian town chosen to host the Irish choir. From there the group was treated like distinguished guests as no stone was left unturned to ensure that the choir’s hectic schedule ran smoothly and with plenty of fun!

The first of many highlights came at a concert with local choirs and Tullamore’s Academy Chamber Choir in the local church in Obernburg on Friday night. Saturday was the first of the two part competition programme where choirs from the Philippines, Serbia, Denmark, Columbia and Portugal also took to the stage.

A chance meeting with the Portuguese choir on a tour of a church in another town only meant one thing – an opportunity to sing together in the most incredible acoustics – this was recorded and can be seen on the Chamber Choir’s Facebook page and is already garnering lots of likes and shares. Sunday night Tullamore’s Academy Chamber Choir had the opportunity to sell our Irish spirit with a mix of traditional songs and dance included in the programme. This particular set went down very well with the locals and secured the choirs third place achievement.

After small celebration on Sunday night, the choir returned home to Ireland, silverware in hand – tired, but overjoyed!
