'You're stealing from your own community' - Offaly Tidy Towns anger at flower thieves

A local Tidy Towns group has hit out a thieves stealing flowers from public planting spaces in Edenderry.
“After a few weeks of peace, the flower thieves are back,” Edenderry Tidy Towns posted on social media recently.
“To the person stealing from our planters you're not ’borrowing’ flowers, you're stealing from your own community. Every flower you take has been bought, planted, watered and cared for by volunteers who give up their own time to make our town look its best,” they said.
“If you think this is harmless, it isn't. It's selfish, disrespectful, and unfair on everyone who enjoys these displays,” the voluntary group added.
They urged people to help stop this behaviour.
“To anyone who sees this happening, please don't ignore it. If you witness someone removing flowers from our planters, let us know or report it. The more eyes we have, the harder it becomes for those responsible to keep getting away with it,” they said.
However, Edenderry Tidy Towns said such behaviour wouldn’t deter their efforts.
“To everyone else, thank you for your continued support. We won't stop planting, and we won't stop trying to make our town a place we can all be proud of—but it would be nice if some people stopped making that job harder,” they said.
