Over €186,000 in funding announced for community groups across Offaly

73 different groups across Offaly benefit from Local Enhancement Programme 2026
FINE Gael TD for Offaly, Deputy John Clendennen has welcomed the announcement of €186,553.43 in funding for community groups and organisations across Offaly under the Local Enhancement Programme (LEP).
This funding, announced by Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary TD, and Minister of State with responsibility for Community Development and Charities, Jerry Buttimer TD, will provide vital capital support to essential community groups, particularly those serving disadvantaged areas.
The Local Enhancement Programme 2026 was launched in December 2025 and it will provide capital funding of €7 million to support projects that are essential for many small community groups and organisations, particularly those who serve disadvantaged areas in rural and urban areas. A total of over 4,100 individual projects will be funded, supporting thousands of community organisations across the country.
Speaking on the announcement, Deputy Clendennen said: “This is fantastic news for Offaly. The Local Enhancement Programme is all about supporting our local groups and clubs across the county, who are the lifeblood of our communities. From Tidy Towns committees to sports clubs, youth services, and men’s and women’s sheds, the diversity of the successful Offaly projects highlights the incredible volunteerism and community spirit we have here.
“The approval of these small grants, totalling over €186,000 will go a long way to support the fantastic work being done on the ground in Offaly. Whether it is funding for minor renovations, purchasing essential equipment for maintaining public areas, or upgrading IT facilities, this support will make a real difference.”
The Local Enhancement Programme is administered by the Offaly Local Community Development Committee (LCDC), with support from Offaly County Council.
Nationally, the LEP is providing €7 million in capital funding to projects, building on the success of previous iterations of the fund and supporting the Government's 'Our Rural Future' strategy.
Deputy Clendennen concluded: “I want to thank Offaly County Council and the Local Community Development Committee for their assistance in administering this fund. This Government is committed to supporting local communities to shape their own futures, and I am delighted to see Offaly benefiting so strongly from this initiative. Congratulations to all involved."
