Offaly people can join with their neighbours to cut energy costs

People in Offaly could reduce the cost of installing solar panels by working with their neighbours through a community-led initiative, resulting in much lower electricity bills.
The Tullamore Sustainable Energy Community (SEC) is hosting a Solar PV Meitheal, bringing households together to learn about solar energy and benefit from collective purchasing support.
The event will be held in Tullamore Court Hotel on Wednesday, July 22 at 7.30 pm.
Working alongside an SEAI Mentor, the group will engage with local installers to help make the process simpler and more affordable.
The organisers of the event note that electricity costs have risen by up to 80 per cent since 2019.
At the meeting you will learn how you can generate your own electricity with Solar PV and lock in your energy costs at 6 cent per kilowatt and lock into that price for up to 20 years.
The Tullamore Sustainable Energy Community (SEC) says by working together as a collective, with the direct support of the SEAI mentor, they will negotiate with local installers, bring PV prices down and make the process easier for you.
