Premier Credit Union records double national success at Irish League of Credit Unions AGM

Premier Credit Union celebrates landmark achievement with two significant milestones
PREMIER Credit Union is celebrating a landmark achievement following the recent Annual General Meeting of the Irish League of Credit Unions (ILCU), with two significant milestones highlighting the organisation's growing influence and leadership within the Irish credit union movement.
Following the AGM, Premier Credit Union Director D.J. Darcy officially began his role as a voluntary Supervisor of the ILCU after being elected to the committee in recent months. The appointment is a significant honour for D.J., his wife Mary, and everyone associated with Premier Credit Union.
A dedicated volunteer for many years, D.J. has served in numerous leadership roles and committees at Premier Credit Union while also contributing extensively to external credit union organisations. His commitment and experience have consistently focused on strengthening both his own credit union and the broader credit union sector.
The AGM proved particularly memorable for Premier Credit Union, as Chief Executive Officer Brian King was invited to address delegates on three of the five key pillars underpinning the most significant package of rule changes proposed by the ILCU in over sixty years.
The rule changes, which were overwhelmingly supported by delegates following extensive consultation and debate across the movement, are designed to significantly enhance the ILCU's overall governance framework. They will also ensure that the organisation has the structures, processes, and flexibility required to remain a modern, dynamic, and agile representative body, capable of supporting Irish credit unions in an increasingly complex and rapidly changing environment.
Brian served as a volunteer member of the working group responsible for developing the proposals and guiding them through the consultation process. The successful adoption of the rule changes marks a major milestone for the League and the wider movement.
Highlighting the importance of the reforms, ILCU President Brendan Jenkins stated: "These are the most significant developments in the ILCU's governance structures since its establishment."
Reflecting on his involvement in the initiative after the AGM, Brian King, CEO of Premier Credit Union, said: "It was a tremendous honour to be asked to contribute to such a significant project for the Irish League of Credit Unions. Some years ago, I had the privilege of helping develop a strategic plan for the League, which helped drive a range of positive changes. To once again play a part in shaping the future direction of our representative organisation is something I am very proud of."
Brian added, "What made this process particularly rewarding was the willingness of people across the movement to come together, share ideas, and challenge the proposals in a constructive manner. The strongest organisations are never insular; they are open to collaboration, challenge, and innovation. These rule changes demonstrate the power of collective thinking and will help support an even stronger governance framework for the ILCU and a more agile organisation, capable of supporting credit unions well into the future."
Amanda Ryan, President of Premier Credit Union, added: "We are immensely proud of both D.J. and Brian for the contributions they continue to make, not only to Premier Credit Union but also to the wider credit union movement.
“D.J.'s appointment as a Supervisor of the ILCU recognises his many years of dedicated voluntary service. Brian's involvement in developing and delivering these important rule changes reflects the leadership, strategic vision, and governance proficiency he has demonstrated throughout his career.
“His vision and experience leading meaningful organisational and governance improvements within credit unions has earned him significant respect across the sector, and Premier Credit Union was proud to see that energy and expertise recognised through his contribution to this landmark project."
The President added, "These achievements reflect our commitment to supporting the development of the credit union sector nationwide. The recently announced Credit Union Strategy Project offers a unique opportunity for the movement to come together, harness its collective expertise, and help shape a bold and ambitious future for credit unions in Ireland.
“Credit unions have always achieved their greatest successes when they collaborate, share knowledge, and embrace positive change. Premier Credit Union looks forward to playing an active role in the process and contributing to the continued strength and success of the movement," concluded Amanda Ryan.
