WATCH: Fire breaks out at big Offaly recycling plant

Fire service still at scene this morning after overnight inferno

A UNIT of Offaly fire service was this morning still at the scene of a major overnight blaze in Tullamore.

The fire broke out at the Bord na Mona (formerly AES) recycling plant at the Cappincur roundabout on the Tullamore bypass.

Flames lit up the night sky late on Thursday and plumes of smoke were visible from great distances as the fire took hold.

Substantial damage has been caused to the plant which is a busy collection and sorting facility for recyclable material.
