Rugby League International in Tullamore

IRELAND will play Serbia in a rugby league international in Tullamore this Sunday. The game, which is Ireland's first in the rugbyleague.com European Cup, is in Tullamore RFC's ground in Spollenstown and kicks off at 2.30pm.

Six teams in total have entered the competition and are split into two pools of three. The third team in Ireland's pool is Wales who Ireland face in Pontypridd on November 1.

Scotland, Lebanon and Italy comprise the other half of the draw. Ireland are the highest ranked team in the competition and hopes are high that the team will progress to the final which is being held in Bridgend in Wales on November 8 as group winners.

Ireland coach Andy Kelly has announced a 20 man squad for the game and it is a look to the future as the team plan towards the 2013 World Cup qualifiers.

Five players from the burgeoning domestic competition are included and all are expected to play at some stage in matches at home to Serbia and against Wales in the group stage.

Stand off Tim Bergin is Portlaoise-based Laois Panthers' first full international in a squad that has been affected by injuries with the likes of Sean Gleeson, Gareth Haggerty and Eamon OCarroll the latest to be ruled out.

Scott Grix of Wakefield continues to captain the side after his terrific performances in last autumn's World Cup and there are first call ups for props Ryan Boyle of Castelford and Luke Ambler of Leeds along with Warrington's Challenge Cup winning back rower Tyrone McCarthy.

Tickets are n10 per person and under 16s are free with a paying adult.
