Killeigh make a winning debut in the Offaly Community Games U-11 boys Rugby by defeating Birr by three tries to two.

Both teams got into the game from the start which was competitive and exciting throughout. It was Killeigh who made most of the running in the first half with forwards Craig Claxton, Mark Kelly and Conor Kelly playing very well and Dylan McDermott scoring the first try.

Following good play Birr scored in the corner. Killeigh lead two tries to one at half time thanks to impressive support play from James Nolan and Morgan Tynan which resulted in a great try by Adam Strong.

From a line-out Dylan scored a fantastic solo try running from half way. Birr came more into the game and scored again. For the remainder of the game Killeigh defended their lead with superb tackling by Ruairi Dunne, Ryan Strong and Ronan Daly and covering by Nathaniel Troy and Diarmuid Brady. Well done to all the players.

This is the first time that Killeigh have entered a rugby team in community games and the players will gain great confidence from winning against a team with a strong rugby tradition in community games. Thanks to Killeigh Soccer club for the use of their impressive facilities. Thanks also to Brian Hogan from Birr for referring. Killeigh move on to play Ferbane in the county final on Saturday 5th May in Ferbane.
