GALLEN CS came out on top in the Jack McCann Senior Soccer Blitz last Thursday with a dramatic win over Tullamore College on penalties in the final.

The competition is open to Post Primary Schools from across Offaly who are invited to take part in the annual blitz.

Leah Victoria Park in Tullamore was the venue for the tournament this year and the sun shone on the day for what was an excellent competition.

Standards were high from start to finish and in the end it was Gallen CS and Tullamore College who faced off in the final.

Tullamore College got off to a flying start and were 2-0 and cruising at one point in the game. However through their exploits on the GAA fields across Ireland, Gallen have gained great experience and they brought that to bear last Thursday.

They clawed their way back into the game and after a determined fightback they leveled the scores at 2-2.

That forced the game to penalties and when the dust had settled on a dramatic shoot-out, it was the West Offaly side who prevailed by 4-3.

After the game the trophy was presented to Gallen CS captain Aaron McDonagh and it will be added to the already glittering collection of trophies in the Ferbane school won across a range of sports in recent years.
