Second place finish for Shane Lowry in Austria

OFFALY golfer Shane Lowry recorded one of his best results of the year as he finished in a tie for second place at the Lyoness Open in Austria.

He came into the final round in a tie for seventh but he fell back early in his round with two early bogies..

However he fought back well with an eagle on the sixth to get back to level par for the round and he birdied six of the final twelve holes to finish in a tie for second with veteran French golfer Thomas Levet.

The tournament was won by Austrian Bernd Wiesberger who finished off with seven under par 65 to leave him three clear of Lowry and Levet.

Shane Lowry was in the mix from the start shooting two under in his first round and he followed that up with back to back four under pars to leave him well set going into the final round.

He earned just over e86,000 and shot him up the rankings in the Road to Dubai to the point where he is now just outside the all important Top 60 places.
