Leinster indoor success for Tullamore athletes
DARRAGH McNamara, Larry O’Reilly and Fearghus Hannon competed in the Leinster Indoor Championships held in Nenagh last Sunday.
Darragh was first up in the Junior 60m. Having just anchored the boys U-19 relay team to a silver medal he finished 4th in his heat and did not progress to the final.
In the Senior 60m, Fearghus Hannon and Larry O’Reilly finished 3rd in their respective heats and qualified for the final.
In the subsequent final Fearghus finished in 6th place in a time of 7.40. Larry ran a superb final to take 3rd place and his first Leinster Senior bronze medal in a new 60m PB of 7.25.
The 200m event was decided on time. Darragh went in the Junior 200m and ran a great race, finishing strongly to take the silver medal in a new PB of 23.30.
Fearghus and Larry were drawn in separate heats in the Senior 200m. Both ran superb races leading from start to finish. When the times were announced it was 1-2 for Tullamore Harriers, Fearghus taking the gold medal in a time of 23.06 and Larry taking silver in a new PB of 23.15.
Our Master athletes were also in action in the Leinster Indoor Masters at the same venue on what was a packed programme. Jim Langan had a very successful day, winning three gold medals in the M7 category. Jim’s treble was achieved in the 800 metres (3.04), 1500 metres (6.30) and the 3000 metres in 13.36.59. Mary Walsh won gold in the W6 200 metres in a time of 39.3.
Raheny 5 Mile
The 2012 AXA Raheny 5 road race took place on Sunday. It was attended by over 2,000 people and was one of the largest fields ever at the event. Leonard Owens finished in 462nd place in 35.05 (chip 34.55), Andy O’Grady 473rd in 35.13 (chip 35.05) and Tony McCormack was placed 484th in 35.20 (Chip 35.10).
Offaly Sports awards
The Offaly Athletics Awards night will take place in the Central Hotel, Tullamore this coming Friday, February 3rd where Juvenile and senior athletes from the county will be honoured for their athletic achievements during 2011. Everyone is welcome to what should be a great night.

Tuesday and Thursday at 6.30pm, Sunday morning at 8.30am Except on a race day. New members always welcome.
It is important to be seen on the roads so reflective gear must be worn while training on the roads
