Irish Shotokan Academy back in training in Aura

SET up over three years ago by Sensei Liam Gorman, 2nd Dan Black-Belt in Shotokan Karate, the Irish Shotokan Academy is going from strength to strength.

There are four clubs now running under the banner and the latest is a return to the Aura Centre where it all started.

The facilities in the Aura are second to none with changing rooms showers etc. and parents can have a swim or a coffee while the kids train in a safe setting.

The aim is to teach a martial art that is world renowned for its discipline and confidence building while also learning a self-defence which will be with them for life.

Presently students are training for gradings and also tournaments they will take part in during the year.

Over the years the club has had visitors from other arts call to train with the students including Master Paul McGowan from the USA (5th Dan Hapkido), Shihan Brett Halliday (6th Dan Shotokan), Sensei Ami Ericcson, (Head of Jujutsu Sweden), Hanshi Joe Carslake (10th Dan Jujutsu) and Hanshi Tommy Jordan (10th Dan kenpo) who is the first black-belt in Kenpo in Europe. Training times in the Aura Leisure Centre are every Wednesday from 5pm to 6pm and instructor Sensei Liam can be contacted at 085 2756446 or liamgorman67@hotmail.com
