Irish National Womens 400m Hurdle Champion Jessie Barr takes on some Killeigh CG athletes

Irish National Women’s 400m Hurdle Champion Jessie Barr came from Limerick on Tuesday evening last to give her time to the children of the Killeigh Parish. Almost 90 children turned out of the evening to meet Jessie.

The children were very taken with Jessie who gave each of them the time they needed to take photos, get autographs and even challenge her to a race. Jessie spent half her coaching time with the U-10 boys and girls and the second half with the U-14 boys and girls.

Jessie and her brother Thomas are currently chasing the Olympic A standard to be selected in the Irish team for the London Olympics and the children of Killeigh Parish wish her the best so they can see her on TV and tell all their friends they met and have been trained by Jessie. At the end of the session, 3 of the under 13’s challenged Jessie to a race which she happily obliged.

Good luck to Jessie in her upcoming races. The committee of the parish community games wish her all the best and hope to see her in the Olympics in the summer. Thank you also to Jessie for giving her time to the children of Killeigh Parish.

Athletics continues in the GAA pitch in Ballinagar every Tuesday 6.30pm to 7.45 E1 per child.
