Good perfomances in Indoor Championships

The AAI Games and the u/20 National Indoor Championships took place in Nenagh over the weekend and 5 Tullamore Harriers athletes travelled to the Tipperary town. Larry O’Reilly, Stephen Kelly and Ferghus Hannon all took part in the 60 m and the 200 m on the Saturday. Larry, who has been running well in training won his 60 metre heat in 7.39 and followed this up with a new indoor Pb in the 200 metres when clocking 23.56 on his way to winning his heat.
Stephen Kelly won his 60m race in a time of 7.39 and finished 3rd in his 200m race in a time of 23.93. Fearghus Hannon finished 2nd in his first 60m race in a time of 7.40 and 4th in his 2nd 60m in a time of 7.39 . Eileen Rafter dropped down from her usual race distance when she competed in her first indoor 400 metres and she showed great potential by finishing in fourth place in a fast 63.8 seconds.
Sunday saw the Junior (U/20) Indoor National Championships take place at the same venue and first to run was Darragh MacNamara who ran in the 200m. Darragh was very unlucky to find himself in a heat with little competition but ran a big personal best of 23.86. He ran the B final which he won easily in 23.80 to end the day a full second inside his personal best in a time that would have put him in fourth place in the A final.
Eileen Rafter returned to Nenagh to run in the 800 m which proved to be a slow, tactical race for the first 3 laps. Eileen showed her growing maturity by holding her position amidst some jostling. Lying in 5th with 250 metres to go she steadily pushed ahead picking off not one but 3 athletes to finish in an excellent silver place in a time of 2.29.73. With another three years in this age bracket, this was a great debut in Junior competition.
Heath 10 k Run
Catch Grennan finished in third place out of a field of over 400 runners in the Heath 10k run in Laois last Sunday. On a breezy day and several hills to contend with, Catch ran a fine race in a time of 34.11. Eddie Garry was placed 12th in 35.22. Pauline Curley was the second woman home and 21st overall in 36.46.

Feburary 5 : National Intermediate and Masters Cross Country Championships, Boyle, Co. Roscommon.
Feburary 11 & 12 : Irish Indoors Championships, Odyssey Arena, Belfast.
Training: Tuesday and Thursday at 6.30pm, Sunday morning at 8.30am Except on a race day. New members always welcome.
It is important to be seen on the roads so reflective gear must be worn while training on the roads
