Busy Easter for Harriers athletes

The Easter Bank Holiday weekend proved to be an active weekend for our Tullamore Harriers athletes with a fine choice of events throughout the region. We were represented in road races, forest runs and even mountain challenges and featured well in all.

Good Friday 8K Forest Run

The 2nd annual 8k forest run was held in Emo on Friday last. It was organised by St. Michael’s AC and the race started in the grounds of the beautiful Emo House Estate. Over 320 runners crossed the finish line in addition to many walkers resulting in a very successful and enjoyable event.

17 Tullamore Harriers athletes took part in the race, which was run on mixed terrain, both forest paths and road. Pauline Curley was 1st lady home in a time of 29.03, narrowly beaten by Jason Donegan(28.54), who was 10th overall.. Catch Grennan was 2nd man in a time of 26.30, and David Fox 5th (28.06),

Slieve Bloom Run

The inaugural Slieve Bloom run was held on Easter Sunday morning. It incorporated a 10k and half marathon route set in the picturesque mountains range and started on Clonaslee, Co Laoise. In the 10k race our Sinead Rigney was 2nd lady home.

Her brother Sean also competed as did Veronica Casey. (no times posted yet). In the Half Marthon, Eddie Garry was 2nd man home in a time of 1hr 20m. Mary Bracken finished the challenging course in a time of 1hr 39m, followed by Rita Daly and Eugene Mann in 1hr 45m. Mary Casey finished in a time of 2hr 08 .

Ballybunion Half Marathon

Ivan Dunne made the long journey to Co. Kerry on Easter Saturday to compete in the Ballybunion half marathon. A large field of over 1200 athletes ran in this and the 10k event. Ivan finished in a time of 1hr 52.

May - Sun 6th, Dochas run, Registration in Harriers Grounds; Mon 7th, Leinster Novice and Masters Road race championships, Gowran, co Kilkenney

Training

Training Tuesday and Thursday at 6.30pm and Sunday at 8.30am except on race days. New members always welcome. Contact any member or Tullamore Harriers website.
