Brereton and Quinn up for 2012 Croghan Hill Challenge

OPERATION Transformation star Adrian Brereton will lead the way at this year’s Croghan Hill Challenge which takes place on June 16 this year.

Also taking part will be Voice of Ireland contestant Conor Quinn from Mullingar and both men will be putting themselves to the test alongside athletes and fun runners of all ages and fitness levels from across the country.

The challenge takes place on a unique obstacle course atop Croghan Hill which was designed by local man Peter Moore.

Among the obstacles are the Chu Chi tunnel, Sherwood forest, Quincy’s Slippy slide, The Croghan Hill Rope Bridge, The Machu Pichu steps, Anna’s Mud bath and much more.

There are a variety of distances to accomodate the fit, the not so fit and the fun runners.

For those who are looking for a less strenuous test, there is a 3km course with a 5km course for those who fancy a slightly more testing run.

At the top end of the scale is a gruelling 10km run over, under and through the obstacles which will test the fitness levels of even the most dedicated athletes.

Many people chose to take on the challenge for charity giving them an extra incentive while also raising funds for their chosen organisation.

Individuals and teams can enter in each event. Members of teams must enter as individuals then the four members must be nominated at least 30 minutes before the start of the particular event.

There are prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Ladies and Gents and teams in each of the events with a special ‘Best Fancy Dress’ team prize.

Participants from all over the country will attend on the day and already there are entrants from as far afield as Cork and Donegal.

Croghan Hill is situated in the heart of the country just 20 minutes from Tullamore and Mullingar. Since the course was opened it has been used by a variety of sports teams as a team bonding trip and also to test their endurance levels.

There was a great turnout for last year’s event and it is expected that on the back of that great success, even more people will take the challenge this year.

There is currently an early bird entry fee of €15 with the regular fee being €25. Food and refreshments will be available. Fully stewarded parking is available.
