Lowry stays in the top 20 at Volvo China Open

OFFALY golfer Shane Lowry is in a share of 17th place after the third round of the Volvo China Open at the Suzhou Jinji Lake Golf Club.

The Esker Hills clubman shot a level par 72 on Saturday after rounds of 70 on Thursday and a 68 on Friday.

Coming into the final three holes Shane was two over after dropping shots on the 2nd and 14th holes (both par fives) but he finished strongly with birdies on 16 and 18 to get back to level par to leave him on six under for the tournament.

He finds himself eight shots off the lead which is now held by South Korean golfer YE Yang who shot a four under par 68 to move to -14 for the tournament.

One shot behind Yang are Finn Miko Ilonen and Welshman Jamie Donaldson after rounds of 68 and 69 respectively.

In the battle of the Ryder Cup captains, European captain Colin Montgomerie closed the gap on his American counterpart Corey Pavin.

Montgomerie shot a level par 72 to move on to four under for the tournament while Pavin shot a one over par 73 to drop lie on six under with one round to go.
