Harriers athletes in rich vein of form
DEAN Power finished what was an outstanding weekend for Tullamore Harrier's Juveniles at the Leinster Indoor Championships in Nenagh on the last weekend of February as double Leinster Indoor Champion in the U-15 60m in a time of 7.83secs and in the Long Jump with a leap of 5.42m.
And last weekend, Liam Brady continued to impress with a fourth place in the National Junior Cross Country Championships. Just nine seconds outside the medals Liam ran a hard race over a very flat fast track in the Phoenix Park.
A long winter of dedicated training by the group of athletes together with coaches Tom Godley, Damian Lawlor, Frank Brennan, Nick Hannon, Lorna Dooley and Dan Kennedy paid off huge dividends at the Leinster Indoors with five athletes taking Leinster titles and a large number qualifying for the finals.
The other champions included Eoin Mulligan U-12 shot (9.31m), Darragh Hanlon U-19 shot (13.18m), Keelin Guilfoyle U-13 shot (8.44m) and Eileen Rafter U-15 800m (2.26).
Other results included U-12 Boys Eoin Mulligan who came second in the 600m. In the U-13 Boys Gerard Godley came seventh in 60m and fifth in the Long Jump (3.76m) and Ryan Crampton was second in the shot (9.28m).
In the U-14s Barry Mooney came second in the 800m (2.27) with Chinnie Izuchukwu fifth in the same race. (2.34). Barry also came fourth in the Long Jump (4.37). Also at U-14 Conor Mulligan, was second in the shot (9.79).
At U-16, Aaron O’Leary Doyle came eighth in the 60m and seventh in 1500m, Harry Fllynn was fourth in 1500m, Cormac O’Donovan was sixth in the Long Jump (4.13), while James Mulligan was second in the shot (12.76).
In the U-17 Boys, Darragh MacNamara was third in the 200m (24.77), third in the Long Jump (5.78) and fourth in the 60m (7.71). Sean Donegan was fifth in the 60m (7.82) while Stephen Flynn was in seventh in the 800m and eighth in the1500m.
In the U-18 Boys, Merve Salako was second in the 60m (7.58) while in U-19 Boys, Stephen Kelly was second in the 60m (7.44) and second in 200m (23.43).
The girls also did extremely well despite Ciara Galvin’s fall in the U-13 600 m which necessitated a trip to hospital and three stitches. Ciara is a fine young runner and will be looking forward to the next opportunity to compete.
The results included U-12 Zoe Murray sixth in 600m and at U-13 Keelin Guifoyle came third in the 600m.
At U-14, Nadine Donegan was seventh in 800m (2.53), Noelle Cocoman came eighth in the Long Jump (3.99) and in 800m (2.56). Michelle Keegan was fifth in the Walk, fifth in the Long Jump (4.11) and fifth in Shot (8.60).
At U-15 Nicole Cuskelly was fourth in the 800m (2.30) and Ciara Izuchukwu was seventh in the 800m (2.40). In Girls U-16 Aoife Dempsey was sixth in the 800m, Anna Redmond came eighth in the 800m, Sinead Rigney was third in 1500m, Kate Maxwell was fourth in the same race while Anna Redmond came third in the Long Jump (4.28). At Under 19 Lauren Dunne came second in 60m (8.37).
