Hapkido masterclass at Irish Shotokan Academy in Tullamore

AN American based 5th Dan Black Belt in hapkido who is originally from Tullamore returned to the town last week as a guest instructor at the Irish Shotokan Academy.

Master Paul McGowan, who teaches full time in Phoenix, Arizona, gave the class of 25 students ranging from beginners to black belts a demonstration at the invitation of Sensei Liam Gorman.

A presentation was made on the night to Master McGowan to mark his visit to the academy.

Also in attendance on the night was Sensei Martin Shehan from Cork who has trained with some of the top japanese masters in the Hombo Dojo in Japan.

The academy is in operation for five weeks at the Aura Leisure Centre in Tullamore and is going from strength to strength.

Sensei Liam Gorman says that all ages and levels of experience are catered for.

"We cater for all ages from seven up to 100. There are three different age groups. No experience is needed as we can cater for the beginner up to the more experienced person."

The club train in the Aura Leisure Centre in Tullamore on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Anyone interested can contact Liam on 085 275 6446.
