Tullamore through to Leinster Final

TULLAMORE qualified for their first Leinster Senior Club Championship Final with a win over Westmeath champions Clonkill in the semi-final in Cusack Park in Mullingar on Sunday.

Clonkill 1-9

Tullamore 1-12

The Offaly champions had to battle every inch of the way to make it to the final. Kevin Martin's side held a slender one point lead at the break thanks largely to a first half goal from Francis Kerrigan ten minutes before half-time.

With Shane Dooley finishing the game with another eight points to add to his already sizable total, Tullamore seemed to be on course for victory but a goal from Brendan Murtagh in the closing stages kept the Westmeath side within touching distance.

However Tullamore held their nerve to record a three point victory.

The Offaly champions will play defending Leinster Champions Ballyhale Shamrocks after the Kilkenny champions defeated Ballyboden by 4-18 to 0-18.

Elsewhere Edenderry advanced in the Leinster Special Junior Hurling Championship with a 1-14 to 1-13 win over Laois side Kyle.
