Superb Offaly through to All Ireland Camogie semi-final with win over Dublin

THE remarkable rise of the Offaly Camogie team continues on Saturday as they advanced to their first All Ireland Senior semi-final for the very first time after an incredible comeback to see off Dublin in the quarter-final.

All Ireland Senior Camogie Quarter-Final

Offaly 1-13

Dublin 2-9

Just three years ago Offaly were still in the Junior ranks but back to back All Ireland titles brought them to the top level and this year they have showed it is very much where they belong.

Offaly trailed by 1-8 to 0-4 at the break and it looked as if they were in trouble but Offaly hit back with a run of 1-6 without reply with the goal coming from Elaine Dermody from a penalty.

Dublin were shell shocked at this stage and with Drumcullen’s Dermody hitting 1-7 of the total, Offaly found themselves four points ahead with the clock ticking down

Dublin did set up a nervous closing to the game with a late goal but Offaly held on for an historic win which sets up a semi-final against defending All Ireland Champions Wexford on August 18.

Scorers: Elaine Dermody 1-7 (1-0 pen, 0-4f, 0-1 ‘45), Michaela Morkan 0-3, Siobhan Flannery 0-2, Arlene Watkins 0-1.
