Offaly hurlers bow out against Galway

The Offaly hurlers bowed out of the Walsh Cup on Saturday after another positive display against Galway in the semi-final in Tullamore.

Walsh Cup Senior Hurling

Offaly 2-16

Galway 1-22

A week after defeating Kilkenny, Joe Dooley's side came within three points of repeating the performance against John McIntyre's Galway.

Offaly got off to a very slow start allowing Galway to score six points without reply in the early stages.

The home side bounced back well and a goal from full-forward Ger Healion brought the teams level at 1-4 to 0-7.

Galway hit a goal of their own before the break to lead 1-11 to 1-6 as the sides jogged down the tunnel.

A goal on the hour mark from Shane Dooley, who finished with 1-7, brought Offaly back within five.

With time running out Offaly were back within three and they had one last chance to equalise but goalkeeper Eoin Kelly blasted a 21-yard free just over the bar.
