A host of Offaly sports legends came together on Wednesday last to support the launch the Offaly Sports Stars Charity Golf Classic which will be held in Esker Hills Golf Club on Saturday, August 18.

The classic will see sports stars from the past and present join teams and captain teams in aid of Offaly Rehab Care Services

The golf classic format will be teams of four playing a fourball – two scores count system. There will be a GUI and Non GUI competition to encourage all levels of golfers to participate.

Over 40 teams are expected to compete, with some great golfing prizes up for grabs for ladies and gents, as well as special prizes for Nearest to the Pin and Longest Drive.

Speaking at the launch of the event, RehabCare Resource Centre Manager Marie Hensey commented, “We are absolutely delighted to see so many of the greats of Offaly sport have come to support the launch of what promises to be a great event. They are heroes to so many people across the county and indeed country so I think it’s just fantastic that they have given their time to help promote this event. In the coming weeks we will be asking other sports stars to captain or join a team in support of the event.

“All funds raised from the golf classic will go directly towards the purchase of a new vehicle to help our service users improve their access to the community. It promises to be an enjoyable day’s golf and we are encouraging everyone to get involved.”
