Clubs opt to end County Board Draw
THE clubs of Offaly voted by 46 votes to 17 to end the €100 County Board Draw in 2012 in favour of a levy system.
In previous years each club had a quota of tickets to sell but this year each club will be obliged to pay a predetermined levy to the County Board in the same proportion as tickets were sold in previous years. The total clubs have to pay between them is €101,000.
Some clubs raised questions over the way the total is split between the clubs with one example being St Rynagh’s football Chairman Ray Bell who pointed out that between his club and St Rynagh’s hurling, they would have to stump up €5,600 which was considerably more than even Tullamore would have to pay.
Chairman Pat Teehan brushed off that an other issues regarding the split by simply saying that the ratios had been determined before he took over.
He said that while he would field proposals, whatever the split between clubs, the total had to be the same.
