BIRR won the first of its 22 Offaly senior hurling champions titles in 1912 and to coincide with the centenary of that significant breakthrough success, the club intends to produce a pictorial history in September of this year.

A sub-committee of the GAA Club, under the chairmanship of Martin McCarthy, is co-ordinating the production of this publication and other committee members include; secretary Liz Kennedy, joint treasurers Gary Cahill & Herbert Hennessy, PRO Alan Walsh, Cllr Tony McLoughlin, Junior O’Callaghan and Mick Spain.

Over the coming weeks committee members are hoping that anyone associated with Birr GAA Club, past or present that may have photographs of interest, will get in touch with them and be kind enough to make their photographs available for publication.

Please note that all photographs will be logged, scanned and returned to people immediately, or alternatively, if people wish to scan their own photographs and submit them, they can do so to a dedicated e-mail address: birrgaabookpics@gmail.com

Hard copy photographs can be submitted to any of the committee members or if you wish, drop them into Martin McCarthy 087 7649804 at Sportswear Direct, Main Street, Birr or alternatively contact Alan Walsh at 086 1086420.

While the publication will predominantly feature photographs there will also be a strong editorial focus, highlighting the many achievements of the club since its foundation.

There will be more details on this exciting project in the weeks ahead and all assistance from the public would be very much appreciated.
