Dooley the hero as Ireland defeat Scotland in hurling/shinty international

SHANE Dooley capped what was an already unforgetable October with the winning goal for Ireland in the hurling/shinty international against Scotland on Saturday.

The Offaly player got the better of the Scottish defence to fire home an unstoppable shot in injury time to break the deadlock in a tight game.

He had already scored three points before firing home the winning goal.

Already this month Dooley has captained Tullamore to their first Offaly Senior Hurling title since 1964.

It was a double celebration for the Dooley family as Shane's father and Offaly manager Joe was in charge of the Irish team.

Ireland had to defend stoutly in the closing minutes to hold on for the win by 1-11 to 1-8.

Seir Kieran's Joe Bergin was also in the Irish team which was captained by Kilkenny's Tommy Walsh.

Meanwhile Ireland also won the camogie/shinty international by 2-2 to 0-0.

Ireland had earlier won the Under 21 hurling/shinty international by 1-8 to 0-10. That game was refereed by Offaly's Tony Carroll.
