Buckley hat-trick fires Colaiste Choilm into final

Colaiste Choilm (CC) qualified for the Leinster Final with a win over a very strong Rochfordbridge side. Three first half goals from David Buckley were the key scores as the Tulllamore side advanced to the decider.

CC started strong with points from Liam Langton and Peter Walsh. Rochfordbridge responded with a point of their own from their centre forward before David Buckley stepped up for CC to take a free which rattled the home side’s net.

Within two minutes the Rochfordbridge boys clawed back three well taken points but CC came back determined with a point from Liam Langton who then supplied the pass for David Buckley who slotted home CC second goal.

It was Liam Langton who stepped up to put another free over the bar and a minute later he became provider to David Buckley who smashed home his third and final goal of the day.

Although Rochfordbridge came back strong, the CC full-back line of Daire Foley, Keelan O’Brien and Patrick Robillard weathered the storm, while the midfield pairing of Cathal Curran and Colin Waters held strong to the half time whistle. The boys went into the break leading 3-4 to 0-6 points in favour of CC.

The second half started at a high tempo. Rochfordbridge had the opening three scores as they mounted a determined fightback. CC battled hard and replied with three points from Ronan Bell and two well taken frees from Liam Langton.

Rochfordbridge replied with two points and this was the way the game progressed throughout the second half. Liam Langton rounded off the scoring for CC with a well struck point while Luke Plunkett, Ryan Casey and Sean Duignan tormented the Rochfordbrige defence throughtout the match and were unlucky not to have their names on the scoresheet. Rochfordbrige didn’t give up and they scored a goal in the dying minutes. CC’s defence of Cathal Kavanagh, Chinne and Andrew Fitzgerald were outstanding throughout the game and shored up the back line to ensure CC progressed to the final, while Adam Cleary (captain) was superb between the posts, encouraging the defence throughout the game.

Joint Man of the Match went to Chinne and Adam Cleary for outstanding performances in defence. The final score was
