Offaly Local Development Company (OLDC) are putting out a call to all community groups in Offaly to be part of a major celebration of community resilience.
This event is scheduled to take place in the Tullamore Court Hotel on Tuesday, November 4. The objectives of the event are to acknowledge the work carried out by volunteers in communities in the county and to give volunteers ample opportunity to visit other stands and share tips with each other.
In this day and age when all too many communities are under pressure, it has been proven that these same communities have pulled out all the stops to ensure concerted community efforts have been made to establish to the highest standards in the development of enterprise, child care facilities, amenities and sporting facilities, to name just a few.
Chairman of Offaly Local Development Company, Tom Finnerty, himself a community volunteer from Rahan, is encouraging all communities to ‘take part and partake’ in the event and along with his fellow Board members have welcomed this initiative.
CEO Brendan O’Loughlin, said that, “it’s been brilliant to be part of such a vibrant county. In these times of recession the requirement for volunteers to take up the challenge of providing services and facilities increases and community organisations in Offaly have been to the forefront of community action over the past number of years.”
The team in OLDC have begun the process of organising the event and according to their Rural Development Manager; Roisin Lennon, “already there has been a lot of interest shown by communities who wish to participate.”
Ms Lennon has promised that all communities will be afforded the opportunity to participate and Declaration of Interest forms will be circulated in the coming weeks.
“Taking everything into account this event will be about acknowledging the work of community volunteers and a celebration of their resilience,” she stated.
