Tullamore Macra is thriving

Tullamore Macra is a thriving club in Offaly with 42 members affiliated. Tullamore take part in many different activities that Macra has to offer from debating, public speaking, Know your Ag Quiz, indoor soccer, volleyball, tag rugby & basketball as well as helping out with the local community by raising funds for local charities such as Dochas & 1life suicide prevention.

Tullamore Macra is a thriving club in Offaly with 42 members affiliated. Tullamore take part in many different activities that Macra has to offer from debating, public speaking, Know your Ag Quiz, indoor soccer, volleyball, tag rugby & basketball as well as helping out with the local community by raising funds for local charities such as Dochas & 1life suicide prevention.

Many of Tullamore’s club members also sit on the county executive committee and Queen of the Land Festival Committee.

Some of the club’s achievements are as follows: Club members Tara Fourie, Niamh Bermingham, Caitlin Rigney & Jamie Boland are through to the second round of the National Debating Finals which will be held in the next couple of weeks.

For the third year in a row a Tullamore Macra member has been selected to represent Offaly Macra at the annual Queen of the Land Festival. Susan Cleary represented Offaly Macra in 2011; Claire Walsh was runner up in last year’s competition and Tara Fourie, originally a native of South Africa and now living in Killeigh, Co Offaly, who will the Offaly Queen 2013.

Susan Cleary and Eimear O’Donovan recently won Gold and Silver Bank of Ireland National Leadership Distinction awards last September. Gold, Silver and Bronze Leadership distinction awards are presented to county officers who achieve pre-set targets and also complete a leadership interview. Susan will also be on the Irish team representing Macra at the European Rally 2013 which will be held in Gurteen College in August.

As well as competitions Tullamore Macra attend many of Macra’s social events such as Kilkenny Black Tie ball, Limerick Easter Ball, Mr Personality, Miss Blue Jeans, Miss Macra and of course Queen of the Land to name but a few. Tullamore Macra also organise many fun activities for their members such as paintball shooting, go-karting, bowling, table quizzes.

The club meet up for weekly activities every Wednesday night with club meetings held once a month.
