Offaly District Council held its monthly meeting in The Bridge House recently but attendance was extremely poor.
The report from the National Council rep reminded leaders that there will be a day in The Bloomfield House Hotel, Mullingar on Saturday, April 13 from 10.30am-5pm. The purpose of this meeting will be to look at the strengths of Foróige and the positive contributions that leaders make to their clubs.
They will also look at how best we can implement the aims and the philosophies of Foróige. Any leaders willing to attend should contact the RYO as soon as possible.
There will be a National Bag-pack in all Tesco shops on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th September. It will be the responsibility of District Council to organise the bag-pack on Saturday 14 and projects/café to organise packers for Friday 13. There will be further details at the District Council meeting on the April 8.
From September next it is hoped to have all affiliation done on line. Foróige HQ will retain the information from year to year and it will only be necessary to up-date the information with new members every year.
Citizenship will take place this year but in a very different format to other years. Final details have not yet been revealed, but we expect to have details at our next meeting.
Breda Maguire our former RYO and now the Alumni Officer for Foróige spoke to the meeting about the possibility of all clubs hosting a ‘Gathering’ style event next November when every club would organise a night for former members. Photos and other material from previous years of your club and any recognition trophies or awards could be displayed and local dignitaries could also be invited.
Two acts, one from Ferbane and one from Ballycumber have been selected to represent Offaly at the ‘Offaly Got Talent’ competition which will be held in Blanchardstown on Saturday 27th April beginning at 12noon. Best of luck to both contestants.
The next Disco will be held in the Community Centre, Kilcormac on Friday 05th April from 9pm-12midnight. The admission will be €4.
The annual end of year ‘Funday’ will take place in Ballycumber Community Centre/GAA Park on Saturday 11th May. Clubs will have responsibility for organising event on the day and it is important that every club is represented at the next District Council meeting on 08th April to begin the process of organising for the event.
The First Aid Course was deemed to be very expensive and further enquiries are to be made by the executive to see if there are any alternatives.
The HYPE Festival will take place on Saturday 25th May. If neighbouring clubs are travelling they should look at the possibility of sharing transport to keep down costs.
The next District Council meeting will take place in the Bridge House Hotel, Tullamore on Monday, April 8 at 8.30pm and every club is encouraged to send at least one representative.
