RHODE COMHALTAS

Farewell Traditional Session: A session of traditional music and dance took place in the Bridge House Hotel on Friday evening last in honour of the retired Co Chairman Tom Burke and the Co Secretary Eileen Swords. Each comhaltas branch in the county of Offaly paid a 15 minute musical tribute to Tom and Eileen who have each given more than 20 years service to Offaly Comhaltas.

Rhode branch was represented by music student Aoibhe Molloy who played tunes on both Accordion and Tin Whistle and she did the branch proud. Aoibhe then presented Eileen with a bouquet of flowers in recognition for the work she does with the music classes. A special word of thanks to Aoibhe’s parents and Seanna Mc Garrigal who prepared her for the session.

Eileen and Tom were presented with mementos of their years of work by James Hogan, Co Chairman and members of the County board who all paid tribute to both of them for their dedication to Comhaltas in the county.

Monthly Session: The second session of traditional music and song of the New Year in the branch will take place on Friday next, February 3 in Killeen’s Lounge and it is hoped to have a fine collection of musicians on the night.

The indications are that it promises to be an excellent evening’s entertainment so if you play an instrument please come along and join us in the music and craic.

The music classes are up and running for the past few weeks and preparations are in train for the County Fleadh. There are a few changes in the entries this year and it is hoped to have a group entry from Rhode branch.
