‘YOGI’ has been named Tullamore’s Top Dog after raising the most funds at the Tullamore Dog Walk for family carers. Ireland’s second National Dog Walk, which saw 13 walks take place at Petmania stores across the country, including Tullamore, raised almost €48,000 for family carers.

This year’s walk, which took place on Easter Monday, saw participant numbers double, and an almost €8,000 increase in funds raised from last year’s walk.

Funds raised go to The Carers Association which works to support voluntary family carers of loved-ones who are elderly, seriously ill, people with disabilities and children with special needs.

Emily Miller, Marketing Manager of Petmania, organisers of The National Dog Walk, said, “The event this year was a great success and we are delighted to have raised such vital funds for The Carers Association. It was a great fun day out, and we are extremely proud of each of the 2,500 dogs, and their families, that took part in the event across the country. We are already looking at how we can make the 2012 event even bigger and better, so dog owners are recommended to pencil Easter Monday 2012 into their diaries now!”

Regional Top Dog’s around the country, including ‘Yogi’, have been presented with a year’s supply of dog food, valued at up to €1,500 per dog, from Royal Canin.

Yogi’s proud owner is Vincent Bermingham from Tullamore, Co. Offaly.
