Offaly Foroige hold well attended AGM

The Annual General meeting of Offaly District Council of Foróige took place in The Bridge House Hotel, Tullamore on Monday, November 12.

There was a good representation of Clubs present. The election of a new executive was the first item on the agenda and the following officials were elected for the coming year. Chairperson: Frank Higgins, Vice Chairperson: Ann Mullins; Secretary: James Murray. Assistant Secretary: Barbara Daly; Treasurer: Jim Pearse. Assistant Treasurer: Niall Fitzgerald; PRO Fr James Mac Kiernan; Assistant PRO Fidelma Melia.

The new Chairperson thanked the clubs for their support and hoped that this would be a very successful year for all Clubs throughout Offaly. Congratulations were extended to Croghan Foróige Club on their success in the ‘Irelands Greatest Teen’ television production for their Citizenship Project on creating a community Website.

The last Disco which was held in Cloghan was evaluated. The general feeling that it was well ran and that people enjoyed the night.

All clubs are reminded that there will be Officer training for the top table of all clubs and it will take place in The College of Further Education, Banagher on Monday 26th from 7.30-9.30pm for clubs from South and West Offaly and on Tuesday 27th in Ballinagar for clubs from North and Mid Offaly from 7.30-9.30pm.

All Clubs are reminded that they must be affiliated before Friday 30th November. Please ensure that the affiliation is correctly signed by the Secretary of the Club and by the Club Leader. Even if all members have not paid their membership the affiliation form should be sent to HQ and additional member’s names can be forwarded later.

The meeting was informed that the VEC Grant for 2012 was to be sent to Clubs accounts by Friday 16th November.

It was agreed that the next Disco will be in Kilcormac on Friday 14th December at 9pm. It was decided that members of every club would bring one item of non-perishable food for a collection for St Vincent de Paul. The leaders will arrange to collect the items and bring them on the night. All foodstuff collected will be donated to St Vincent de Paul. It was also decided to offer spot prizes on the night for best dancer, best costume, to the member who demonstrates a good Christmas spirit and various others categories which will be decided by the DJ.

Any club that has new leaders are reminded that there will be training provided for them in the near future and all application and Garda Vetting forms must be filled in and sent to the RYO before they can begin as leaders in the club.

The DC decided to organise Dodgeball and Soccer Tournament on an area basic with the finals of both events to be held at the end of year Fun day.

The HYPE festival will be held in Longford on Saturday 25th May 2013.

The next District Council meeting will be held in The Bridge House Hotel, Tullamore on Monday, December 10 at 8pm.
