THE Kilcormac St Patrick’s Day parade is an eagerly anticipated event in the social calendar of the local area and this year the excitement is already building.
As well as floats from local participants and fancy dress fun for the children, plans are afoot to have a local hip hop dance troupe participating in the parade to give an exciting and lively element to the festivities.
The 2010 winners of Best Overall Prize, Bracken and Haydens, Ballyboy as well as other regular entrants are sure to be polishing up their acts for 2011 so there should be great competition this year.
The 18 to 30’s category will be hotly contested in 2011 with last year’s winner, Jason Charles and co. already preparing for March 17 and keeping his plans well under wraps – so if you are between 18 and 30 and think you’ve got what it takes to claim the trophy this year you’ll be glad to know the competition is open to anyone and you can enter on the day for great fun and widespread recognition.
This year it is hoped that some of the local National Schools, along with children and adults in the Fancy Dress categories, will add some colour to the streets with their entries.
If your interest is Vintage tractors and cars there is a wide range of vintage entrants in the parade each year and this makes the Kilcormac Parade worth coming along to as a spectator for all you vintage enthusiasts.
With prizes for Best Group display, Best Vintage vehicle, Most Original float, Fancy Dress for adults and children and many more categories it looks like Kilcormac is the place to be on St Patricks Day 2011.
