IT may have been 27 years since some of the Tullamore College class of 1984 had seen each other, but it made no difference last Friday night.
Almost 60 past pupils and teachers gathered at the Wolf Trap in Tullamore to take a trip down memory lane.
Organised by Caroline Dolan and Mark Kelly, the event saw people travelling from both near and far to catch up with each other.
“Derek Power came from Hong Kong, Mary Egan from Sweden, Val Buckley from Galway and John Cunningham from Miltown Malbay. Helen Delaney also travelled. It was a fantastic night,” said Caroline.
She said a mix of past and present teachers were also in attendance. “We had Mary Troy, Mary and Tommy Grogan, Denis Magner, Oliver McCormack, Sr Jenny and Marian Finlay,” explained Caroline.
The idea of a reunion was thought up by Caroline and Mark. “Some of us hadn’t seen each other in 27 years. It had been in my head for a long time. So between myself and Mark we decided to go ahead with it. We got a list of our classmates and contacted them, some through their parents and people said they were interested so we decided to go ahead with it.”
“It was an asbolutely fantastic night. I am still getting calls from classmates about it. I didn’t want it to end,” enthused Caroline.
After some food the group boogied the night away to the sounds of the 80’s, “Our DJ Keith Caffrey got everyone going,” she said.
A number of local businesses sponsored some spot prizes for the occasion.
As with all good things though, it had to come to an end. “It was quite emotional,” Caroline concluded.
