Kilcormac student Shane Guinan came second overall at the regional final in Thurles Library, held on November 1. It was chaired by Ms Phil Prendergast MEP and there was strong competition from speakers from counties Laois, Offaly, Tipperary and Wexford. Each contestant had three minutes to present their arguments, convince the judges and persuade the audience.

The judging panel had the unenviable task of choosing the winners and they are: 1st Place – Michael Dwyer (Wexford); 2nd Place – Shane Guinan (Offaly); 3rd Place – Alison Spillane (Laois).

Michael Dwyer, a 16 year old student from Gorey, then went on to win the national final in Farmleigh House on Tuesday 20th November. Congratulations to all who took part!

The Soapbox is a national event presented by Europe Direct Ireland and has received funding from the European Commission.
