Crowds expected to flock to Kilbeggan racecourse for Midlands National

Award winning blogger Nuala Gorham announced as Judge of Dundrum Town Centre and Wineport Lodge Best Dressed Lady Competition.

This year has been one of the most successful in Kilbeggan’s long racing history but it is only a rehearsal for the highlight of the summer social scene in the midlands-the Midland’s National and the ever popular Best Dressed Ladies Competition.

Many people have already set aside next Friday evening July 15, when racing commences at 5.50pm. The Kilbeggan formula has consistently provided fun, friendship, and an electric atmosphere with a full evening of entertainment for all the family including live music, children’s entertainment, as well as the glamour and style of the Best Dressed Lady competition.

The Best Dressed Ladies Competition continues to grow in popularity with entries increasing each year. They say that clothes change our view of the world and the world’s view of us. With that in mind the Dundrum Town Centre and Wineport Lodge in Glasson are sponsoring the Best Dressed Lady event at Kilbeggan yet again and they will present the winner with a prize worth in excess of €2,000.

This will include a €1,000 shopping spree at Dundrum Town Centre and a Woman of Style weekend at the Wineport Lodge including champagne dinner, culinary class, spa treatments etc. The finalist’s will be selected throughout the races with a champagne reception in the marquee for the finalists.

The judge for the competition is two time award winning blogger Nuala Gorham including Ireland’s Best Fashion Blog 2013. She founded the website and social channel as a creative outlet to express her inspiration and love of fashion, which have featured in publications like Vogue, Style, House of Frazer etc. As the iconic Audrey Hepburn once said “Elegance is the only beauty that never fades” and this is an opportunity for all the ladies to shine their light in clothing terms.

The now well established Midland’s National of €50,000 continues to be attract good fields and produce a thrilling contest. Last year it was won by Gigginstown House Stud with Ravished and very often it is won by horses that ran well previously in Kilbeggan like Francis Flood’s dual winner Down Under. It is also an opportunity to spot a few potential winners at Galway. The other sponsored races include the Michael Moore Car Sales Mercedes Benz Handicap Hurdle of €10,500 and the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Beginners Chase of €14,000. The Tom McCormack Memorial Cup Mares Hurdle honour the former Secretary of the Race Committee.  Amazingly, at the last races every race was won by a favourite or joint favourite which meant it was a glorious day for punters.

Another unusual event this year involving the ladies at Kilbeggan is that Rachel Blackmore the first female professional jockey since Maria Cullen (who was the first female professional jockey ever to ride a winner over fences when she won at Kilbeggan in June 1987) is the leading rider at Kilbeggan with 5 winners after 4 meetings and is two clear of Mark Walsh. She has ridden two doubles on Supreme Vinnie & Glenwood for Ever (both dual winners on the track this year) at Kilbeggan. It would be fantastic if she won the Leading Jockey award and maybe win the Midland’s National?

The track will be alive with music, glamour, great racing and loads of fun for families. Live music will be provided with White Diamond in the marquee and with bouncing castles, obstacle course etc for children. Admission is Adults €13, Students & OAP’s €10, plus discount for groups and children under 16 free.

There is also a Special Discount Summer Party Pack for €20- you get admission , a Free  Race Card ,€5 Drink Voucher, and €5 Food Voucher. This is the ideal opportunity to meet friends, family, fellow students, work colleagues, visitors etc in a party atmosphere and even make a profit like all the punters at the last meeting!  The first race commences at 5.50PM and there are seven races on the card.
