Offaly are through to face All-Ireland champions Wexford in the Leinster Senior Camogie Final after late goals from Arlene Watkins and Jean Brady helped the Faithful to a 2-9 to 1-9 win over Kilkenny in a closely contested provincial semi final at St Brendan’s Park in Birr on Saturday afternoon.
Offaly, whose only win in the League this year came against Dublin on the final weekend, were good value for a one point lead at the interval.
Kilkenny held a four point lead at 1-9 to 0-8 into last 10 minutes but with the clock running down Offaly rallied. Birr’s Arlene Watkins smashed the sliothar into the top corner with 5 minutes left and a minute later Jean Brady staked her claim for a starting place by finding the net for the Faithful’s second goal.
Kilkenny’s search for a late second goal proved fruitless and Michaela Morkan had the final word, putting over a 45m puck to seal a 2-9 to 1-9 victory.
