On Sunday June 3, students from Tullamore Kenpo Karate, Patrick Street, Tullamore, attended the Midlands Kenpo Karate Competition, which was being held in Portlaoise.

Students from Kenpo Karate clubs, all over the country, attended this event, to try their skills at fighting and forms; making it very difficult to be placed in the top three trophy winners.

Two students from Tullamore did very well.

Michaela Cox, took third place in her Kenpo forms, (a series of moves , showing your defence against attackers) and third place in her age group for sparring. (controlled fighting, much like a boxing match).

For the second student; Ciara Glackin, this was her first time to attend a competition, so to come away with a trophy, in sparring in her age group, was very good.

Mr Jack Smith second degree black belt and Head Instructor, at Tullamore Kenpo, Patrick Street...said, he was realy pleased with the effort from all his students, who attended the competition and hoped that the trophies which were brought back to Tullamore would encourage more students to enter the next one.
